5 common waterproofing membrane construction methods

According to China's 2022 building waterproof material product structure statistics, waterproof coiled material accounted for more than 60%, waterproof coiled material has become the main waterproof material waterproof engineering.
However, no matter how good the quality of the waterproof coiled material is, improper construction will also lead to the failure and leakage of the waterproof layer, so the construction of the waterproof coiled material is particularly important.
Commonly used waterproofing membrane paving methods are hot melt method, bonding method, self-adhesive method, wet laying method, pre laying method, etc.
1. Hot melt method
Hot melt method refers to the construction method of using flame heating to melt the hot melt adhesive at the bottom of the hot melt waterproofing membrane for bonding (this method is applicable to Minshen SBS modified asphalt waterproofing membrane and Minshen APP plastic modified asphalt waterproofing membrane)
01 Base treatment
Clean, clean, grass-roots should be solid, flat, clean, there are depressions, large cracks, etc. need to do leveling. The base treatment agent (cold base oil) can be applied without exposure and leakage. The coil can be paved only after the surface is dry.
02 Construction of additional layer
The yin and yang corners, pipe roots, eaves gutters, deformation joints and other parts are prone to water leakage, and additional layer treatment should be done (the coiled material should be cut out in size and shape in advance and laid on the base layer that needs to be treated).
03 Bonding Treatment
The lap width of coiled material shall not be less than 100mm, and the lap area of coiled material shall be sealed separately. The same hot melt method shall be used for construction. The lap of upper and lower coiled materials shall be filled with hot melt modified asphalt, with a width of about 3-5mm and uniform and straight.
04 Closed water experiment
The closed water test shall be carried out according to the requirements of the construction scheme.
05 Construction of Protective Isolation Layer
The outer surface of the waterproof layer shall be provided with protective layer according to relevant specifications or design requirements.
2. Bonding method
Bonding method refers to the use of non-curing coatings, high-viscosity anti-skid waterproof coatings, polymer coatings, such as composite construction methods for bonding waterproofing membrane.
Base treatment
First clean the surface, the base should be solid, smooth and clean (when the paint bonding method is used, the base surface is uneven or small holes do not affect the construction.)
Additional layer construction
The yin and yang corners, pipe roots, eaves gutters, deformation joints and other parts are prone to water leakage, and additional layer treatment should be done (the coiled material should be cut out in size and shape in advance and laid on the base layer that needs to be treated).
Large face construction
The non-curing coating is used for the composite construction of hot-adhesive waterproof coiled material, and the thickness of the non-curing coating shall meet the requirements of relevant specifications; The non-curing coating is applied and the waterproof coiled material is rolled at the same time (if the wall and other facades are waterproof, high-viscosity anti-skid water-based rubber asphalt waterproof coating can be used for composite construction).
Overlapping treatment
The lap area of coiled material shall be sealed separately, and the construction shall be carried out by hot melting method. The lap area of upper and lower coiled material shall be the degree of overflow asphalt strip.
Closed water test
The closed water test shall be carried out according to the requirements of the construction scheme.
Construction of protective isolation layer
The outer surface of the waterproof layer shall be provided with protective layer according to relevant specifications or design requirements.
3. Self-adhesive method
Self-adhesive method refers to the use of self-adhesive waterproofing membrane, without heat construction, also do not need to glue materials, and the construction method of bonding.
01 Base treatment
The base course shall be solid, flat, dry, clean and free of sand, dust and oil stains. The unevenness and cracks shall be leveled with mortar. The base course shall be inspected and accepted before construction, and shall be cleaned and cleaned after meeting the requirements. If necessary, it shall be blown with a vacuum cleaner or a high-pressure dust blower.
02 Brush base treatment agent
Before laying and pasting the coil, the base treatment agent shall be applied evenly and completely covering all the parts of the coil to be pasted, and no omission and accumulation shall be allowed.
03 Dedetail node processing
After the base treatment agent is dried, the parts requiring additional waterproof layer shall be treated in accordance with relevant specifications or design requirements. The details of the coil that are not easy to stick should be assisted by a blowtorch or assisted by other heating equipment for auxiliary heating construction. The additional layer coil at general position shall be fully adhered to the base layer, and the stress concentration position shall be laid empty according to the specification.
04 Large face construction
Horizontal level: after the base treatment agent is dried, the line should be played in time, the coil should be unrolled and pre-laid, the stress should be fully released, and then the coil should be laid. When pasting, fix the starting end first and then gradually spread it out. Unlock the isolation material at the same time, and lay it from low to high.
Vertical elevation: coil and base and coil and coil are all constructed by full bonding method. The winding head of the facade coil shall be fixed with metal bead first, and then closed with coil sealing paste.
05 Construction of Protective Isolation Layer
After the coil paving is completed and passed the inspection, the surface of the waterproof layer shall be cleaned, and protective measures shall be taken for the waterproof layer and the waterproof protective layer shall be constructed according to the design requirements. An isolation layer is set between the waterproof layer of the coiled material and the rigid protection. The material of the isolation layer can be low-quality asphalt coiled material, plastic film, paper tendon ash, etc.
4. Wet laying method
Wet paving method refers to the construction method of bonding with plain cement slurry or cement mortar to the base layer for wet paving waterproofing membrane used for non-exposed waterproofing works.
Base treatment
The base shall be solid, flat, clean and free of sand, dust and oil.
Coiled material is bonded with cement mortar and base course
When cement mortar is used, the amount of glue powder is 3%-5% of the cement weight. When cement mortar is used, the ratio is cement: medium sand = 1:2. The actual amount of water added needs to be adjusted on site in combination with the moisture degree of the base course. Ordinary Portland cement with 42.5 strength grade is recommended for cement. Cement mortar mixing uniform, scraping in the grass-roots.
Large face construction
Lift the coiled material to the predetermined position to be laid, pre-spread the coiled material first, after fully releasing the stress, set the reference line, lift the isolation film on the bottom of the coiled material, fix one end of the coiled material, and then roll the coiled material to both sides and the front while pressing the coiled material to exhaust the adhesive.
Seam paste
Coiled material seams shall be cold self-adhesive. Adjacent short-side joints shall be staggered by more than 1m; During the construction of long-side joints, tear off the reserved isolation tape on the self-adhesive edge of the joint and paste it directly in alignment with the adhesive marking line. Then use special sealing paste to strengthen the sealing and finish treatment.
5. Pre-paving method
Pre-paving method, also known as pre-paving anti-adhesive method, refers to the waterproof coiled material covered with polymer self-adhesive film layer is laid on the base surface, and then the structural concrete is poured to make the concrete slurry and the roll adhesive film layer tightly combined with the construction method.
01 Pre-laying of Coil
Measure and cut the product, and lay the self-adhesive layer of the coil on the cushion layer, protective wall, underground connecting wall or row pile in advance. (The polymer coil with geotextile surface material is directly hung on the pre-fixed hook for the undercut tunnel).
02 Coil Joint
The yin and yang angle, pipe root, eaves gutter, deformation joint and other parts should be treated with additional layer, and the coiled material with cut size and shape in advance should be pasted on the base layer.
03 coil anti-sticking
The lap width of coiled material shall be 100mm, and the lap area of coiled material shall be sealed separately. The same hot melt method shall be used for construction. The lap area of upper and lower coiled materials shall be the degree of overflow of hot melt modified asphalt, with a width of about 3-5mm and uniform and straight.
04 Attention
If it is necessary to bind the steel bar, remove the isolation paper and bind it directly. There is no need to make a protective layer for the waterproof coiled material pouring mortar fine stone concrete.
